Tracking our climate impact — one pedal stroke at a time.

Cycling plays an important role in low-carbon mobility, but producing bikes generates environmental impacts. To mitigate this, we regularly assess and report our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), measuring the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from our operations and across our value chain.

Greenhouse gas emissions and methodology

Greenhouse gas emissions and methodology

Canyon has set science-based targets to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and minimize our climate impact. To track our progress, we measure our emissions annually and report them to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Our assessments follow the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, which categorizes emissions into three scopes:
Scope 1 – direct emissions from our operations
Scope 2 – indirect emissions from purchased energy
Scope 3 – emissions from our value chain, including raw materials, logistics, and product use
We calculate emissions by collecting activity data (such as energy consumption and material usage) and applying relevant emission factors that represent the CO₂e impact per unit. This approach enables us to identify key areas for effective emissions reduction across our operations and supply chain.

Our results so far

Year Scope 1 Scope 2 Scope 3
2021 726 t CO₂e 88 t CO₂e 82,800 t CO₂e
2022 675 t CO₂e 76 t CO₂e 123,731 t CO₂e
2023 550 t CO₂e 78 t CO₂e 143,072 t CO₂e
2024 524 t CO₂e 98 t CO₂e 97,860 t CO₂e
From data to action

From data to action

To reduce emissions across all scopes, we’ve implemented tools such as the Life Cycle Assessment, which helps evaluate the environmental impact of individual bicycles and their components. This allows us to work closely with suppliers to reduce emissions during production and transportation.
The industry we work in is full of enthusiasm and passion. We want to use this positive energy to actively drive change at our company and beyond towards more responsible business practices.

Collaboration for greater impact

Since 2023, we’ve been co-developing a Climate Action Training Programme, which launched in 2024. This free of charge training programme creates a level playing field and a common understanding of measuring and reporting GHG emissions, and helps our suppliers set reduction targets and implement solutions to reduce their environmental impact. By working together, we believe we can accelerate change across the entire cycling industry.
We believe that working together and sharing knowledge and experiences will drive change for the better, faster.
