EU Data Act

The Data Act is intended to give you, as a user of connected products and digital services, more control over the data generated by the use of these products. The Data Act aims to promote innovation and ensure fair competition in the data market.

The overview provides information about our connected services.

Data information

In order to comply with our obligations under the EU Data Protection Regulation, please find below the following information about the services listed below:

1. Service: Comodule Data Collection

Comodule

Product data

  • Type: Riding and location data, sensor data (e.g., speed, battery level, position)
  • Scope: All operating data of the bike during use
  • Frequency: Every 10 seconds when in motion, every 24 hours when in standby mode
  • Access: Via Bluetooth or mobile connection to the Comodule cloud
  • Storage location and duration: Storage in the Comodule cloud, storage duration in accordance with the terms of use

Connected service data

  • Type: Device data and communication logs
  • Scope: 2 KB per hour (with all data from the table)
  • Access: Automatically via app connection (cloud-based)
  • Storage location and duration: Cloud, duration in accordance with legal and contractual requirements
2. Service: Eclips Data Collection

Product data

  • Type: Bike data during Bluetooth connection (e.g., sensor readings, riding conditions)
  • Scope: 180 KB per hour (all recorded data)
  • Frequency: Recorded every second when connected
  • Access: Via Bluetooth, locally in the app
  • Storage location and duration: Local storage on device, no server transfer

Connected service data

  • Type: Communication data for connection and transmission
  • Scope: Real-time data within the scope of app use
  • Access: Directly via Bluetooth interface
  • Storage location and duration: Locally in the app until manually deleted
3. Service: App Data Collection

Product data

  • Type: App usage data, user input, activity information
  • Scope: Approx. 1 KB per user (without avatar), 2 MB per avatar
  • Frequency: Event-based, when data changes or activity occurs
  • Access: Via app interface with cloud storage
  • Storage location and duration: Storage in cloud environment until account deletion

Connected service data

  • Type: Bike and activity data, system information
  • Scope: 20 B–80 KB depending on event (e.g., new activity, new bike entry)
  • Access: Via app backend, automated
  • Storage location and duration: Cloud, until deleted by the user
Own use

The data is used to provide and secure the connected services, for product optimization, and for research and development. It will not be passed on to third parties without the user's consent, unless required by law.

Disclosure to third parties

Disclosure to third parties is possible at any time upon request by the user in writing or by email. This also applies if the user wishes to terminate disclosure.

Right to complain

The user has the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority.

Trade secrets

The product and service data may contain trade secrets of the respective providers (Comodule / Eclips / App-Service)

Contract term and termination

The contract term and termination are governed by the underlying terms of use. Data access ends when the contract ends.

Information notice according to EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854):

Some of our products may contain connected components from third-party providers that are related to mobile applications or online services of the respective manufacturer.

When such functions are used, technical usage and status data are processed and stored by the respective manufacturer of these components.

Canyon Bicycles GmbH has no access to this data and does not process it. In accordance with the EU Data Act, users can assert their right to information and data portability directly against the respective manufacturer of the connected component.

Information on this is provided by the respective manufacturer on its website or in the corresponding app.
